WASHINGTON (SBG) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to rid the city of Donald Trump, by canceling all Trump Organization contracts with New York City. Last January, Mayor de Blasio said he’d be ending contracts with the Trump Organization to operate the carousel and skating rinks in Central Park, as well as the Trump Ferry Point Golf Course in the Bronx.

But these contract cancellations could cost taxpayers.

“New York needs jobs. They need businesses and they need a stable business environment without chaos," said Open The Books’ Adam Andrzejewski to The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat.

Andrzejewski says that in canceling Trump Organization contracts, Mayor de Blasio is “doing the exact opposite of serving taxpayers and the business community.”

The Trump Organization filed a lawsuit in June over the canceling of the Bronx golf course contract, saying that it is entitled to more than $30 million if removed.

“This is a really nice course, it gets visitors from all over the world,” said Andrzejewski. “You have New York Comptroller Scott Stringer, who’s a New York resident, and he says this is a bad idea. He’s going to have to audit the new contracts and make sure they’re up to par, and they’ve already found different problems with the new operator.”

The two Trump-run skating rinks are now operated by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, who raised the rates for the rinks.

“The first thing the operator did was raise prices by about 20%. So now it costs a family of four, rather than $94 to go skating in Central Park, it costs $104 to go skating in Central Park,” said Andrzejewski. “They canceled the contract for the carousel, so throughout the entire summer in 2021, that merry-go-round, nobody rode it.”
