A new report reveals that American taxpayers cough up $27 billion to so-called "sanctuary cities," money that President Trump has threatened to cut off if they continue to thwart federal immigration officials from seizing illegals in jail for local crimes.

The group American Transparency said $26.74 billion goes to 106 cities, and that is about one third of the total number of over 300 sanctuary jurisdictions.

In a new report titled "Federal Funding of America's Sanctuary Cities," the group said the money is a combination of direct payments and grants to the cities.

The report reveals the federal funding to the cities. The most notorious sanctuary, San Francisco, for example, could lose $500 million. It was published on their website, openthebooks.com.

Funds at risk in other key cities:

New York, $7.6 billion.

  • Chicago, $5.2 billion.
  • Washington, D.C., $2 billion.
  • Philadelphia, $580 million.
